Masters of the universe

Yesterday I went to see Masters of the Universe at the infamous Castro Theater. My first time being in the theater since it reopened early February. I wanted to see what everyone was talking about and it was nice.

Some downfalls, the seats, because they are removable now for concerts felt cheap, uncomfortable, and creaked when you moved (not to mention the group of seats attached moved with it). I was happy to see they kept the organist, and the acceleration from the floor. It was met with lots of applause, ending it with the song San Francisco before the movie started.

Now about the movie. At the beginning I waited to see He-Man and after an hours, still no He-Man. Finally about an hour and 8 minutes in, we finally got what we paid to go see and it delivered.

From a gay perspective, and to honor the fact that this is Up Your Alley weekend here in San Francisco, there were LOTS of gay references. It was fun, campy, and definitely a good watch. Ram-Man, and Fisto jokes were fluid, and Skeletors “Magnificent sword between his glorious theighs” weighed in highly.

Did I need to see it in the theater? Maybe not, but I am really glad I did.
